Brum was buzzing for the Commonwealth Games 2022

Date Added 28/09/2022

Between 28 July and 8 August 2022, the Commonwealth Games came to the UK’s second city, Birmingham, for the first time in its history. The largest event ever staged in the Midlands, the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games saw over 5,000 athletes, 14,000 volunteers and over 5 million visitors flock to the city…and we were delighted to be part of it!

Johnsons Coaches supported the event with high-quality transport, from shuttle services and rail replacement services for Transport for West Midlands, transporting hundreds of spectators to the events, to transporting athletes with our client Corporate & Sporting Events Management.

We also were involved in transporting media crews to Alexander Stadium, and supporting West Midlands Growth Company, transporting visitors to the events at Alexander Stadium, Sandwell Aquatics Centre, Edgbaston Cricket Ground, The NEC, and even shuttling the catering crew from the University of Birmingham to catering sites around the region.

With 11 days of brilliant sport, show-stopping Opening and Closing Ceremonies - starting with Ozzy, the ginormous Raging Bull puppet, and ending with Black Sabbath and Brummie legend Ozzy Osbourne, the whole city was buzzing, and it was great to see the Midlands come together for an incredible Commonwealth Games.

If you didn’t get to experience the atmosphere yourself, here are just a few photos from the week:
