WARWICKSHIRE WI’S INVADE WINCHESTER!

Date Added 02/08/2019

After their successful 100 year Anniversary Trip last year to Lincolnshire, the ladies of the Warwickshire WI enjoyed themselves so much they wanted to do it all over again – and chose Winchester this year. 750 ladies boarded an armada of 15 coaches departing from different pick up points across Warwickshire and travelled to Winchester to celebrate the Womens Institute ‘Big Day Out’on Monday 29th July.

They were in awe of Winchester Cathedral and were able to enjoy the city’s other attractions with the help of generous discounts at a range of attractions, shops, cafés and restaurants.

Sarah Davis, Projects and Operations Manager for Winchester Business Improvement District said “We were delighted that Winchester was chosen and it was lovely to see all the ladies in the City.  Our haberdashery shop C&H Fabrics gave the ladies a 10% discount and there was discounted entry into Winchester Cathedral.”

Wendy Moore, the Event Organiser at Johnsons said: “The Winchester Business Improvement Group were very helpful in arranging discounts with local retailers – and many confirmed afterwards that they had a very successful day. The tourist board were also very helpful, which all added to the enjoyment of the day.”

The Women’s Institute plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities around them.

John Johnson, who was the controller for the coach drop-offs and pick-ups said: “The day flowed brilliantly and we are very proud to support this event for WI members, an institute that have been inspiring women for over 100 years. A great day all round”.
