Quality & Safety
External Accreditation and Auditing
The Guild of Coach Operators represents over 20 of the UK's top coach companies. Membership is only open to coach operators who can demonstrate the highest standards in their operations, and Johnsons Coach & Bus Travel have been members since 2003. The company is also Coach Marque accredited; the only universally recognised kite mark of quality in the UK coach industry.
Both the Guild and Coach Marque are concerned with all aspects of the business and not just the coach itself. This is inclusive of health & safety, training standards, legal requirements and fleet maintenance.
A biannual independent audit requiring 100% pass rate means that the fleet, and the business, are performing at the highest levels in the industry.

Drivers
Johnsons Coach and Bus Travel select staff on the basis of their performance within a standardised interview and skill-based assessment programme, ensuring fair selection for every applicant.
Furthermore, applicants are only selected upon the completion of health and CRB checks, and having engaged in an assessment day where they complete aptitude tests in the following areas; geography and map test, a Highway Code test and a practical PCV driving assessment.
This means that staffing requirements also vary over the duration of the year, thus providing an ongoing challenge. Fortunately, 100 years experience and a reputation for being a good employer has enabled us to recruit enough experienced and loyal casual drivers who work alongside our full and part time teams during our busy months. Furthermore we develop loyalty with our drivers by ensuring that full-time drivers are fully employed 12 months of the year, rather than seasonally.
Training and Development
- SAFED: introduced very successfully this year for all PCV license holders
- Induction Training: an in-depth scheme for all new staff, in place for many years
- CPC training: a commitment to pro-active driver training and are ahead of schedule for its full implementation in 2013
- Institute of Advanced Motoring: certificate achieved by most full-time coach drivers
- Heart of England Tourist Board
- All drivers are Road Operator Safety Council registered for their Safe Driving Awards
Johnsons Coach & Bus Travel also has a full-time, dedicated Quality Manager and is in the process of recertification for the Investors in People standard.
