Ship Visit to MV Voyager

Date Added 13/05/2014

Voyages of Discovery is an award winning small ship cruise company with one cruise ship, MV Voyager. MV Voyager accommodates just 540 passengers and the atmosphere on board is friendly and relaxed.

The main highlight of a cruise on Voyager is a carefully selected team of Guest Speakers which accompany each cruise and delivery fascinating lectures on a variety of subjects. Additionally Port Lecturers offer in insight into the ports of call that lie ahead.

We were invited to look around MV Voyager for ourselves in May 2014 and view the choice of cabins available, explore the public spaces, hear about what Voyager has to appeal to our clients and more importantly, enjoy a sample of the food served in the restaurant!

“We joined Voyager as she docked in Portsmouth. Voyager departs from either Portsmouth or Harwich for all her cruises. We were welcomed on board by the friendly staff and offered a glass of Bucks Fizz.

We headed to the Lookout Lounge for a short presentation to hear more about the history of the ship before exploring the ship for ourselves. The Lookout Lounge is just one of the four bars on board and is next door to another bar, Darwin Lounge which is where the live entertainment in the evening is held. There is no casino or extravagant theme nights on Voyager.

We viewed a cross section of cabins, including the 2 Berth Outside cabins (grade FA and BB) which are used in our brochure. These were a good size, with lots of light and a great choice. However, if you would like to upgrade there are some fantastic options including Balcony Suites with spa bath, Junior Suites and Owners Suites.

A tour around the ship doesn’t take too long and we saw the fully stocked library, outside pool with Jacuzzi baths, shops (which have prices in Sterling), beauty centre, gym which has fantastic views (but apparently is the most underused room!) and two restaurants.

All public spaces are tastefully decorated in a classic style and are inviting and relaxing. There are two restaurant choices on board both of which offer open dining, which means you are free to dine at the time of your choosing, and with whoever you would like. Menus are imaginative and varied and cater for a variety of different tastes. We enjoyed a four course lunch in the main Discovery Restaurant where the food was amazing. For starters there was a choice of smoked salmon or spinach and cheese ravioli; followed by a soup; for the main course there was a choice of fillet steak Diane, grilled fillet of halibut or bread and butter spinach pudding. Then finally, dessert was a choice of meringue with fruit compote, sticky toffee pudding or a cheese board.

The Veranda Restaurant is a self-service restaurant and is a great option for when you have had your fill of four course lunches and dinners in the Discovery Restaurant! There is an outside area for you to enjoy your meal on deck.

All too soon we had finished our tour and lunch and it was time to head back. However, we were all impressed with the high quality service, friendly staff, beautifully decorated public spaces and rooms we experienced on board Voyager. Team this with the carefully planned itineraries and fascinating lectures (which are all included) and we are excited and proud to offer our clients these cruises.”
