UK Coach Awards 2018 Gold ROSCO Winner - Tony Wallace

Date Added 11/05/2018

On Thursday 10th May, saw the 10th annual UK Coach Awards hosted and presented by Carol Kirkwood of BBC Breakfast.

The UK Coach Awards “recognises and rewards excellence at all levels in the industry, amongst all operators, large or small, and in all types of work from express through contracting to coach touring." – John Gilbert, UK Coach Awards Chairman

Awards were presented for high quality operation, and for a range of professional disciplines such marketing, web site design, travel programmes and passenger facilities.

Our very own Tony Wallace, Compliance Manager for Johnsons Coaches was named Winner of the Gold, ROSCO Award for Innovation in Road Safety for his training programme Driver Safety Awareness. Tony had been requested by Road Operators Safety Council (ROSCO) to write a CPC training programme in line with their safety requirements so they could offer it nationally to their members, including Johnsons.

Tony’s training programme covered subjects such as speeding, accident reduction, well-being, work life balance, driver fatigue, substance abuse through drugs and alcohol (impaired driving), driver stress and helping drivers to understand road safety. The programme uses a mixture of discussion forums with hard hitting video clips to highlight the dangers of ignoring driver safety. The outcome of the programme is to unearth who the driver is as a person rather than focusing on the hard skills of driving which consequentially named him Gold Winner by the UK Coach Awards and ROSCO.

Congratulations Tony!
