Our Centenary – A year of celebration

At the beginning of our special year, we wanted to commemorate the event, have fun and raise money for charity. We are happy to say we achieved all three objectives. We adopted the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire air ambulance and set a target of £10,000, and to date have added  well over £12,000 for their much needed funds.

March 2009 – Our centenary dinner

Over 370 guests attended and enjoyed the humour of local comedian Don Maclean - it was a fabulous occasion and a whopping £4000 was raised for the Air ambulance.

Howzat – July 2009

On a sunny July evening a team from Johnsons took up the challenge to play Henley Cricket Club in a game of 20/20 cricket. Henley capitalised on their home advantage and of being able to field a side that could actually play cricket, scoring 161 for 7 from their 20 overs. It was then Johnsons turn, who whilst scaring them for a while were all out for 49!

It was a fun evening with everyone entering into the spirit of the occasion, but more importantly a further £120 was raised for the air ambulance.

Fishing Contest – August

Tony Wallace, Training Manager, and keen fisherman, organised and promptly won our annual fishing contest. Reeling in a combined weight of a creditable 23lbs 8ozes, he also landed the biggest fish of the day too at 6lbs 12ozes – our photograph shows feeder driver Chris Harte reflecting on what might have been.

Football Crazy- August and October 2009

Our enthusiastic football team Johnson’s FC is always up for a challenge. In August they hosted Woods Coaches in what turned out to be an end to end game, full of drama and entertainment. Johnson’s were trailing  4 – 1 at half time but stormed back to finish 5 – 4 losers, in spite of pressurising the opposition all the way but couldn’t quite get that equaliser.

In October, Johnson’s hosted Birmingham International Coaches in a memorable game which saw Johnson’s loose by just 9 goals to 1! The team photograph shows Johnsons FC all keyed up and raring to go before Birmingham International unleashed a storm upon them, are well there’s always the return match!

Family Fun day – September 2009

Around 2000 visitors descended on our depot for what was a truly memorable day – the sun shone, it was fun from start to finish and another £3700 was added to our rapidly expanding total for the Air Ambulance.

Golf Day – September 2009

Widney Manor Golf club was the setting for what turned out to be a fiercely contested competition... driver Mike Fisher was the winner, with John Wagstaff, traffic office, coming a very creditable second. Rumour has it that the event will be staged again next summer.

Pretty in Pink – October 2009

Friday 30th October was the day Johnson’s staff looked pretty in pink, yes chaps as well!, but it was all in a good cause – to raise funds for breast cancer research. Over £120 was raised from staff, customers and suppliers – not a bad day’s work – well done everyone.
