Johnsons go greener
With the environment and our carbon footprint on everyone´s minds, local coach operator Johnsons has got ahead of the game by purchasing two brand new coaches that meet exhaust emission standards that don´t come into force until October 2009.
Over the last 10 years European legislation has required that all engine manufactures gradually reduce pollutants in exhaust emissions, and the latest phase, Euro 4 came into force for all new coaches from October 2006.
The next step Euro 5 is not due for another 2 years but manufactures can offer it as an upgrade to environmentally conscious operators as the changes only require engine management adjustments to existing engines.
" The two new coaches were ordered last November, as part of our continuous investment programme, and for an extra £2000, just 1% of the £200,000 price tag we were able to jump straight to Euro 5 exhaust emissions standards " says John Johnson, one of the companies Directors " coach travel is environmentally friendly by nature, every time we take a group out by coach it keeps the equivalent of 20 or so cars off the road. These two new coaches means that our carbon footprint is reduced even further"
